Background

The concept of a "Galactic Network" was developed by J.C.R. Licklider in 1969. Galactic Network was set to allow users to access and exchange data from anywhere in the world. Many believe that this was the start of the cloud-computing era! However, cloud computing didn't start to take on the shape we are accustomed to until the early 2000s.

Modern businesses and industries depend heavily on cloud computing because it offers a flexible and economical way to store, manage, and analyze data & applications. Cloud computing technologies have completely changed how we communicate and collaborate, and they will probably continue to evolve and see new advances in the years to come.

Accenture, one of the Fortune 500 companies, is a leading global company specializing in IT services and consulting. In 2021, Accenture published the results of worldwide research in which they collected data from various organizations in different countries across different industries. The report, entitled ever–ready for every opportunity: how to unleash competitiveness on the Cloud Continuum (the full report is accessible through Moodle under the Session 1 and 2 section), listed the following 25 technologies enabled by the Cloud Continuum:

  3. SIEM (Security Information and Event Management): Capabilities allowing firms to collect logs from throughout the network, normalize that data, and analyse it for security events. Also, you may consider SOAR (Security Orchestration and Automation Response).

  4. Trust-based Architectures: Architectures allowing privacy-protecting ML models, such as federated ML, tiny ML, secure multi-party computation, differential privacy, encrypted computation, and others, to happen at the edge. You may also consider the Zero-trust topic.

Your Task

Your task is to select ONE technology from the list provided and write a comprehensive report about it. You will carry out a literature review on the chosen cloud computing technology. The literature review should include the latest research and development in this area, identifying possible issues/opportunities facing organizations when adopting this technology, and recommending improvements. The report may include, but is not limited to, the following areas:

  • A brief history of the technology and its development.
  • Benefits of the technology.
  • Essential requirement(s) to unlock the potential of the technology.
  • Technology architecture.
  • Cost implications and consideration.
  • Potential problems/issues that may occur when implementing the technology (migration issues, data ownership, security issues etc.).Suggest possible solutions to these problems. Technology governance perspective/consideration

Presentation

Each student must record/create a short presentation explaining their report's key findings and highlights. Students can use any multimedia tool to record the presentation. The presentation must:

  • Provide detailed, accurate, relevant information that highlights the key points;
  • Has easy to follow, rigorous, and logical structure;
  • Include pieces of evidence of critical analysis and independent thoughts;
  • Use relevant and accurate examples;
  • Be clear, lively, imaginative, and has good use of visual aids (where appropriate);
