Scenario:
Cloud computing has emerged as the new and most well-built architecture and infrastructure for data management and storage needs (Chao, 2013). Cloud computing facilitates users to store and share information and can access data remotely which saved on a server. It is a major technology that has impressed the likes of tech-companies such as Google, Facebook, Amazon etc (Chao, 2013). On the other hand, there is also IoT (Internet of Things), another technology which has revolutionized technology like never before (Mattern, and Floerkemeier, 2010). It is expensive which that allows physical objects and environments to be interlinked with each other through the Internet. Cloud-based computing and applications overall have numerous advantages, and can be deployed in diverse sectors (Mattern, and Floerkemeier, 2010). The increasing discussion and belief that the espousal and use of both technologies is going become more pervasive. Collectively, both appear as important constituents of the Future Internet (Castells, M, 2002). Furthermore, both have the potential of enabling as well as disrupting the application-based technologies scenario. But the bigger concern amidst all this is, the growing concerns about the security aspects it entails and how well guarded IoT and cloud computing are as a whole. There is increasing interest in this particular domain.If the security systems in cloud computing and IoT are not formidable enough, then the advantages and flexibility they offer – individually and collectively – will have flawed credibility.
Questions:
- The key aim and objective of this research are to explore and examine the integration possibilities which exist between cloud computing and IoT, and how it can transform IoT forensics. Several benefits and advantages have already been identified which can be derived from the integration of two technologies (Botta, De Donato, et al, 2014).
- IoT stands to benefit from the unlimited storage and management options available in cloud computing, thus compensating for its own limitations (processing, storage and energy.) Whereas, cloud computing can take advantage from IoT in the way that it can widen its scope to handle real-world objects and environments in a much more organic and organized manner (Botta, De Donato, et al, 2014).
- The distinctive frameworks of both IoT and cloud computing have the ability to influence future application development, where information gathering, processing, and transmission will produce new challenges to be addressed, also in a multi-cloud environment (Botta, De Donato, et al, 2014).
- Importantly, the research is designed to delve into the security related issues and concerns surrounding both the technologies – individually and together.
- As the world pushes towards establishing stronger connectivity with the Internet – the number of devices connected to the Internet is going to escalate enormously in the next few years. In such a scenario, there is bound to be a wide range of security threats and risks (So, 2011) which expanding networks encounter at present, and will face in future.
