Task Summary
The underlying theme of this Assessment relates to the exploration of the contemporary development of COVID-19 predictive models. Such models are a form of artificial intelligence (AI) (Jiang et al., 2020) that use statistical machine learning (ML) models of classification and regression to make predictions. In developing the predictive models, the focus is on the actual method not the final answer.
You are expected to submit a report comparing and contrasting COVID-19 prediction models. Please refer to the Task Instructions (below) for details on how to complete this task.
Task Instructions
To complete this assessment task, follow the instructions below.
Part 1: Predict the Severity of the Cases and a Possible Outcome
1. Download and read the article entitled ‘COVID-19 patient health prediction using boosted random forest algorithm’ (Iwendi et al., 2020; see link below). Reproduce the predictive models in this article by following the steps in each section:
a. Data set description;
b. Data analysis;
c. Correlation;
d. Data pre-processing;
e. Evaluation metrics, including accuracy, precision, recall and F1 Score;
f. Results;
g. Hyperparameter optimisation; and
h. Comparison of models’ performance.
The data sets for the study and notebook code are available to assist you with your reproduction of the model. For the data, code and steps to reproduce the results, Use the markdown in your Notebook to comment on any of your results that significantly depart from the published material. Note that the allocation of marks focuses on the method, not the actual or published answers.
