Assessment Description
Write a report that examines the following
1. Evaluate the Logical, File System and Physical extraction methods afforded by theCellebrite UFED4PC and Cellebrite Physical Analyzer software. Your evaluation shouldclearly identify the characteristics, strengths and weaknesses of each method and therange of data returned.
2. Section 2.2.4 of the ACPO Good Practice Guide for Digital Evidence states that, “In order tocomply with the principles of digital evidence, wherever practicable, proportionate andrelevant an image should be made of the device. This will ensure that the original data ispreserved, enabling an independent third party to re-examine it and achieve the sameresult, as required by principle 3.”.Critically evaluate the role that proportionality plays in selecting the evidence extractionmethod for mobile devices.
3. Create, Test and Evaluate a Process Model for the Forensic Investigation of Mobile Devices.
I. Produce a process model that prescribes best practice for the initial processing andevidence extraction of a mobile device. Explain and justify how you have synthesisedyour process model by referring to the relevant literature. The process model should be applicable to a range of mobile devices and notrestricted to smart phones. For example, you should include a range of devices (e.g.a minimum of 1 x smartphone, 1 x IoT device, and 1 x drone..
II. Using a table, describe the types of evidence that will be captured when using yourprocess model.
III. Design test data that can be used to evaluate the effectiveness of the processmodel. Your test data should be used to demonstrate how your processmodeleffectively meets the requirements as set out in this assignment description; and it should include the different types of evidence identified in section 3.2. Put thedesign of your test data into your appendices.
Part 3 – Extra Information
Do not create a “general all-purpose” process model for this assignment; it should beproduced specifically for the initial processing and evidence extraction of amobile device.Part of the challenge here is making sure that your process model contains enoughinformation to be useful, but not be so detailed that it becomesunusable by anything otherthan the mobile device designed for.Look at the literature for both process models and mobile phone examinations. Processmodel literaturewill help you to justify your own process model but will also help you tosynthesise the correct level of abstraction. Mobile device literature will help youtounderstand what kind of evidence can be acquired from different types of mobile device. The test data that you create should demonstrate all the different types of evidence thatyou will capture when following your process model
