In this assessment, you will play the role of a Hospitality or Tourism Team Leader for the OTEN Leisure Group.  A requirement of your job role is to coach junior colleagues in simple tasks. 

You are required to demonstrate coaching skills either in a real workplace or in a simulated Hospitality or Tourism workplace* environment on four (4) separate occasions, to four (4) different colleagues (you can use the same person to act in 4 different roles).  

*Note: a SIMULATED Hospitality or Tourism workplace can be created in your home to reflect a workplace environment.  Resources used could include:

Hospitality: dining table, kitchen facility, cutlery, glassware, crockery and reservations diary

Travel & Tourism: telephone, computer and desk, travel brochures

You will play the role of the Coach and one other person will play the role of your Colleague

1. Read each task and develop a coaching session using the ‘Key Principles of Training - Six Steps Approach’ as follows:

• Explanation - explain the objectives of the session and the underpinning knowledge required to complete the task

• Demonstration – demonstrate the specific skills to be coached

• Review - the steps outlining the required knowledge and outcomes

• Listen - to questions and check the colleague’s understanding of the task

• Practice – observe your colleague practising the task and evaluate their progress

• Feedback – provide constructive feedback to your colleague during and at the end of your coaching session
