1. Below is a hypothetical 5’ untranslated and coding sequence of a eukaryotic gene starting from the red initiation codon.  If this sequence was transcribed from the 5’ end, write out the pre-mRNA sequence of the transcript. 
2. Do you think translation would start at this initiation codon?  If not, why. 
3. How might the regulation of RNA splicing regulate initiation of translation at this red codon?  Show the splicing sites involved and how this occurs (you will need to access the splice consensus sequences provided in the workshop and lectures). 
4. If initiation of translation were to occur at the red codon, write out the amino acid sequence generated from translation of the mRNA transcript product or products (refer to the genetic code provided in the workshop).
5. If back splining occurs on this transcript, write out the sequence of the back spliced product.
