Computer Science Assessment Answer
Assignment Task:
Assignment Brief
As part of the formal assessment for the programme, you are required to submit a Computing Fundamental assignment. Please refer to your Student Handbook for full details of the programme assessment scheme and general information on preparing and submitting assignments.
Learning Outcomes:
After completing the module, you should be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of fundamental computing concepts.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of programming languages.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of standard programming techniques.
- Use simple programming concepts to solve well-specified problems.
- Use standard operations to manipulate various data types.
- Show an awareness of current developments in working practice.
Your assignment should include a title page containing your student number, the module name, the submission deadline and a word count; the appendices if relevant, and a reference list in Arden University (AU) Harvard format. You should address all the elements of the assignment task listed below. Please note that tutors will use the assessment criteria set out below in assessing your work.
Please note that exceeding the word count by over 10% will result in a reduction in grade by the same percentage that the word count is exceeded.
You must not include your name
in your submission because Arden University operates anonymous marking, which means that markers should not be aware of the identity of the student. However, please do not forget to include your STU number.
Assignment Task
Part 1
- Explain programming environment. Explain the concept of IDE by using well-known IDE environment for Java.
- Provide through your research a demonstration of your knowledge and understanding of Pseudo code and Flow Chart. Provide a flow chart of new student eligibility check system and hotel booking room availability check system with their pseudo code. You must draw your own flow chart by using any software or MSWord. Provide references to support your evidence.
Write a program to provide the following output by using special characters:
- b) Find the syntax error in the code and rewrite the code after making the changes. Use simple programming concepts to solve this specified sample. Add comments to explain the functions of the code. Identify where there is an error in the code. Make the correction needed and note in your comments what was wrong.
using Sys;
namespace Loops {
class Program {
static valid Main(string[] args) {
for (; ; ) {
Console.WriteLine("Hello students")
}
}
Part 2
- Fundamental computing concepts can be evidenced by your knowledge of computer structure. List 5 major components with a description of its function. Link your answers to evidence.
- Provide through your research a demonstration of your knowledge and understanding of programming languages. Provide references to support your evidence.
- This question allows you to manipulate various data types. Using a data structure such as arrays makes it much easier, more flexible and more efficient to implement algorithms especially when your algorithm deals with one of the following categories:
Search algorithm to find an element in a data structure.
Sort algorithm to arrange elements in a specific order.
Insert algorithm to insert an element in a data structure.
Update algorithm to
- a) Look at the code below to identify which category of algorithm from the list is used if the output is dataArray = {6, 8, 10} int dataArray = {5, 2, 6}; int temporary; int x = 0; int y = 1; temporary = data [x]; dataArray [x] = data [y]; dataArray [y] = temporary; element in a data structure.
- b) Explain how the above algorithm type could be used.
- c) Describe one of these two algorithms and how it might be used:
- Bubble or
- Insertion
Formative Feedback
You have the opportunity to submit a draft to receive formative feedback.
The feedback is designed to help you develop areas of your work and it helps you develop your skills as an independent learner.
If you are a distance learning student, you should submit your work, by email, to your tutor, no later than 2 weeks before the actual submission deadline. If you are a blended learning student, your tutor will give you a deadline for formative feedback and further details.
Formative feedback will not be given to work submitted after the above date or the date specified by your tutor - if a blended learning student
Guidelines
You MUST
underpin your analysis and evaluation of the key issues with appropriate and wide-ranging academic research and ensure this is referenced using the Harvard Referencing System. The My Study Skills Area on iLearn contains useful resources relating to referencing.
Additional notes:
Students are required to indicate the exact word count on the title page of the assessment.
The word count excludes the title page, reference list and appendices.
Where assessment questions have been reprinted from the assessment brief these will also be excluded from the word count. ALL other printed words ARE included in the word count. Printed words include those contained within charts and tables.
See ‘Word Count Policy’ on the homepage of this module for more information.
Submission Guidance
Assignments submitted late will not be accepted and will be marked as a 0% fail.
Your assessment should be submitted as a single Word (MS Word) or PDF file. For more information please see the “Guide to Submitting an Assignment” document available on the module page on iLearn.
You must ensure that the submitted assignment is all your own work and that all sources used are correctly attributed. Penalties apply to assignments which show evidence of academic unfair practice. (See the Student Handbook which is on the homepage of your module and also in the Induction Area).
