It is of critical importance to the counselling process that the counsellor understands the way in which societal mental health attitudes influence practices around care of those with mental disorders and their subsequent treatment. In this essay students are to compare and contrast mental health attitudes and care practices in Australia and in a country of their own choice. 

More specifically, students are required to prepare a 2500-word essay where they will: 

(i)  Research current attitudes to mental health disorders in general, in Australia 

(ii)  Research current attitudes to mental disorders in general, in a country of their choice. 

(iii)  Compare and contrast care practices for those with mental disorders in both countries. 

(iv)  Choose one mental disorder from the DSM-5 (e.g. schizophrenia, ASD, PTSD) and discuss the differences in attitudes towards the disorder in each country 

(v) Discuss the treatment processes commonly used in each country for the specific disorder.
