On behalf of your organization, you have already prepared a White Paper. The White Paper reinforces the strategic interests of your organization, and its content needs to be shared!
The next step is to distribute the information from your research to various stakeholders in strategic and effective ways.

To do this you will develop a simple communication plan and produce four documents that communicate messages from your research. These documents require skills in visual communication and writing for the web:

a) Infographic
b) Slide Deck for public presentation
c) News Story for organization website
d) Social Media story/campaign.

Overall, you will determine how best to communicate the findings of the White Paper to particular stakeholder groups using these different forms of communication.

Note: We will cover the best practices and strategies for producing each of these documents in class over the next weeks.

Deliverables (FIVE):
1. Using the template provided, develop a simple Communication Plan in short report format. This will be an internal document, so it can be in memo form and will be used to share with the organization how the findings of the White Paper will be disseminated in a way that is beneficial to the organization.

2. Produce an Infographic (use Piktochart or another tool of your choice) that tells a cohesive visual story. Decide on a core message from your research and design this visual story to appeal to the target audience. Your infographic should include some visual representation of data, as well as other visual design elements (such as icons, flowcharts, images, shapes, colour) to reinforce a cohesive story and message for the audience.

3. Produce a Slide Deck. Often representatives from organizations are invited to speak at public or industry gatherings. In addition, visual slides are often used in public spaces on Screens for Public Service Announcements (PSA) purposes. This presents an opportunity to share the findings of the White Paper. Develop a Slide Deck that communicates a core message from your findings. Use best practices in slide design, use between 5 and 8 slides, and focus on appropriate scope of information.

4. Produce a News Story. Organizations have an online presence through which they share their goals and projects. Develop a 300-word News Story about one element of your research findings to be posted on your organization’s website. Use best practice for feature writing.

5. Design a Social Media story/Campaign. You do not need to actually launch this! Select 1-2 social media platforms, and design a strategy to communicate a core message from your research findings. Your design should reflect the unique features of the platform(s) you’ve selected. You should write and make plans for at least 3 iterations of your social media story. (ie three Instagram postings, twitter postings ... etc.)

 

Introduction (1 paragraph)

Goals (1-2 paragraphs)
? Define the goals of this Communication Plan. What does the organization aim to achieve by distributing these four pieces of communication? Are there changes in opinion, behavior or product sales to be achieved? What would be the ideal outcomes?
? Aim to link these goals to the strategic goals/mission of the organization.
? As well, link these goals to an understanding of how the topic of the White Paper influences the organization (does it provide opportunity or risk or?)
 

Key Messages (3-4 short statements)
? Define the primary points that must be communicated to target audiences
? What are the 3 or 4 main messages you want to share based on what you learned in the White paper?
? Pull these messages from your White Paper but you may expand or extend the messages if necessary.

For example, your messages may be communicating the consequences or opportunities based on what was in the White Paper.
