Task: For this assignment you will combine your knowledge of introducing current and emerging technologies to organisations, with your oral presentation skills. In this assessment, you will present to a group. Firstly, you will choose an organisation and a current or emerging technology that might be used by the organisation. You will determine whether or not the technology is suited to the organisation based on the criteria from your readings (5.4 and 5.5) and from the activity on adopting technology from Module 5. Alternatively, you may choose to evaluate a communication technology that has been recently introduced to your organisation. To prepare for your oral presentation, you will: conduct research on the current or emerging business communication-related technology of your choice. (You do not have to be a technical expert. You just have to know about the technology – what it is meant for, how it is used in business, and who typically uses it.) choose an organisation for the current or emerging technology. This may be where you work or volunteer, or it can be an organisation that you have some familiarity with. Ensure that the scope (how broadly you research) and purpose of your research is clear. You do not have to test your technology within the business context. You can conduct your observation of the technology on your own. Use your knowledge of the business or organisation to explain its applicability. During your presentation: A. Introduce yourself, the chosen business communication-related technology, and the chosen business context. B. Discuss the proposed purpose of the technology. C. Discuss the pros and cons of adopting the technology. D. Make conclusions and recommendations. You will be assessed on the organisation of your presentation, and your use of visual aids, speaking skills and non-verbal language (this includes tone, pitch, body language, eye contact and so on). You will also be graded on the content of the presentation. Please refer to the Assignment 3 mark sheet for specific information about the marks allocated for each element of your presentation. If you are unable to attend a workshop you will present as follows: Record (someone can assist you with this) a video of you presenting a 6–7 minute oral presentation following the Assignment Three instructions for all course participants. Try to replicate the workshop experience as much as possible. This means that you present to an audience that is present and is engaged with what you are presenting.  Remember that part of your final mark is based on how you engage with your audience, respond to their questions, and so on. Get your family/flatmates/work colleagues/friends to be your audience. Once you have completed your oral presentation, upload it to a video sharing site such as YouTube. Please ensure that your lecturers can see your page. You can upload your video using the YouTube ‘Unlisted’ option. Or you can upload your digital video file to ‘Dropbox’. This will mean that only a person who has been given the URL or web address can view the video. You will also need to upload a word document to the assessment area containing the web address details of your presentation, or ‘thread’. You may also need to upload your visual-aid material if it is not sufficiently visible in your video. Keep back-up copies of your recording and all associated files on your computer. Alternatively, you may record your presentation, transfer it to a CD or USB/’memory stick’, and courier/post it to us. Send your presentation so that it arrives by the due date for Assignment 3. However, do not worry if your submission is a few days late due to the courier/postal system.
