The aim of the project is to investigate how QR code technology can be implemented in a building access control system to facilitate building security management and enhance users’ experience.

Research Method
As Kin Hong has been keeping close relationship with its customers, the company can organise workshops with customers and also its IT system contractor. To maintain social distancing, the workshops could be held online via video conferencing. As people get used to online meeting in work from home arrangement, it is expected more participants will be joining the online workshop than traditional face-to-face meeting. Also, it is more flexible as participants may be multi-tasking during the joining the online workshop.
Required resources
Kin Hong has a number of managed residential and also commercial buildings. The interior layout of them is different so the Building Access Control System installed is not the same as well. Kin Hong may need to arrange physical or virtual tour to its managed buildings for the IT system contractor. The implementation of QR code may vary based on design and limitation of the buildings.
To better understand Kin Hong’s customers’ needs and expectation, Kin Hong will need to arrange workshops including its customers and the IT system contractor as well. Through direct communication with the potential end users, it can ensure the outcome design will not be too fancy or complicated to them.
The back-end system will run on on-premises servers installed on-site (at its managed buildings) since the production data of different buildings should be kept locally and not be shared among different sites. In the design or development stage, IT system contractor can make use of Virtual Machines to run the system. After that, physical servers can be purchased to install the back-end system.
The front-end system will run on on-premises PCs installed on-site (at its managed buildings). Some peripherals will be connected to the PCs in order to offer human computing interaction (HCI) with the system. Displays, printers and QR code scanner are expected peripherals. Several sets of PCs with required peripherals will be purchased during the design or development stage.
The front-end system may potentially run on mobile platforms as well. If decided to allow the system running on mobile platforms, some mobile phone running Android OS or iOS will be purchased for testing purpose.
