Highlights
Brief
In this assignment, you are asked to progress the Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) stage of the Engineering Design Process of a specific product. The preceding stages of the Design Process have been completed adequately and have yielded specific Computer-Aided Design (CAD) solutions for applications in three distinct Engineering fields. Three CAD solutions suitable for Automotive, Aerospace and Mechanical Applications are proposed in this assignment.
Choose one CAE problem out of the three proposed to fit your preferences and skills. You are highly encouraged by the Module Team to explore a CAE problem untypical to your traditional study discipline and broaden your engineering horizons.
Tasks
1. Literature review and Proposal of a suitable engineering application
You are expected to conduct an intensive literature exploration of published knowledge and present your understanding of the system represented by your CAD model solution. Your research will not only inform you of the generic purpose of your chosen system but more
specifically about its suitability for a particular.
2. Material Selection
Supported by your research into your chosen system application and your general engineering knowledge, you are expected to propose suitable materials for the various components of your engineering solution. By doing so, you will completely adapt your solution to your chosen
Submit assignment.
3. The choice of your specific application should be supported by research and/or logical engineering assumptions. As such, typical static and dynamic loads will be experienced by your system in operation. Transcribing those loading scenarios into a FEA model will yield results describing the typical response patterns of your adapted product. Make sure to explain your analysis choices and show their suitability by establishing the link to the real- life loading case parameters.
4. Modal Analysis
You are expected to conducted a modal analysis to analyse the modal response parameters of your system. The choice of your specific application should be supported by research and/or logical engineering assumptions. Make sure to explain your analysis choices and show their suitability by establishing the link to the real-life parameters. Those response parameters such as the natural frequencies, mode shapes and vibration amplitudes should form the backbone of your result discussion for this section.
5. Critical Review of results and Optimisation Discussion
A review of the CAE results obtained should be conducted to show their engineering relevance with regards to the structural integrity of your proposed solution. You will expected to show a good understanding of the engineering ramifications of your results and express that accurately with adequate technical terminology. The critical review should emerge onto a discussion of the possible optimisation of your solution to improve the system performance in
torms of its structural integrity dynamic
