1. Introduction 
The purpose of this assignment is to learn how panoramic images can be created. Panoramic images provide new capabilities for walk-throughs of an environment, telepresence, and robotic applications.  Figure 1 shows a panoramic image of the World Trade Center (WTC)’s construction site looking south from the 10th floor of WTC 7.

2. Image Warping 
In this assignment, we consider a visual sensing application in which a built environment scene is being observed by multiple cameras at various locations and orientations. Figure 2 shows examples of images taken by 5 different cameras in front of the Newmark Civil Engineering Lab (by iPhone4s). 

Given two cameras (or two images), a natural thing to do would be to compute how the scene currently seen from camera 1’s point of view would appear from camera 2’s point of view. In particular, this would enable stitching multiple images which have overlapping regions, even if those images are obtained from different locations. This is called Mosaicing. 

An image mosaic is created by first choosing one camera as the reference frame and its associated image as the reference image. The task of mosaicing consists of mapping all other images onto the reference frame so that all images can be displayed together with the reference image. In most cases, there would be no constraints on the scene geometry, making the problem quite hard to solve. Nonetheless, if the scene can be approximated by a plane in 3D, a solution can be formulated much more easily even without the knowledge of camera calibration parameters. Figure 3 depicts the result of mosaicing using the images shown in Figure 2.
