1 Take off all necessary items and produce a Bill of quantities extract of all necessary items which required for the construction of the steelwork. Both take off and bills of quantities should be word processed and in accordance with NRM2 and to industry standard

2 Produce a structural steel work schedule of Task 1 using a spreadsheet which can be used to measure, record and tally up the totals for each different weight/size.

The schedule should be designed in such a way that it is flexible and if there is a change in quantities it automatically updates. Use the data from the drawing as input data. It is important to ensure a self-calculating live excel spreadsheet is produced and show all build up waste calculations

 

3a Produce a 1000 words academic report, explain the concepts of variation and contractual claims, identifying similarities and differences and providing examples and supporting clauses (JCT, 2016) as appropriate to illustrate your points. Provide a mix of relevant and current references to support your explanation

 

3b An Architect Instruction gave rise to a variation in the groundwork items to which the contractor’s Quantity surveyor is claiming for a new revised rate based on existing bill rates. From the Bill rates on the following page determine the revised rates of the items (A) on basis of analogous or pro rata rates. Clearly showing your logic and all workings.

 All structural steel are measured in tonnes (T), give 2 D.P.

 In practice, the structural steelwork is firstly measured in linear (m) or area (m2) and then convert to weight (kg ? tonnes)

 The weight of structural steel can be calculated from the section size tables

 Or the weight can be calculated by volume of structural steel (m3) multiply by the mass of steel i.e. 7850 kg/m3
