Introduction and Aims of the Task
This task involves writing a short technical proposal report that requires you to:

a. review a given building scenario;
b. propose construction methods that are appropriate for that situation;
c. draw technical details that graphically represent the proposed solutions; and
d. defend and explain the reasons for your choices.

The analysis, technical detail component and proposal report, together serve as the Component B final piece of coursework for the module, which accounts for: 40% of the module mark.

You will be assigned a specific site, which is determined by the final digit of your UWE student number (see pages 8 & 9).
Students should anticipate that a significant commitment of time will be required for the reading, preparation and writing related to this coursework submission (between 18 and 30 hours total).

2. Overview of the Task and Scenario (Domestic Building)
A builder is proposing to develop a series of small housing estates on four (4) different sites throughout the UK. Each site will include 30 versions of the same, standardised detached house design, with identical floor plans, wall specifications and structural loading. All information related to the specific building sites and important house specifications is included in Appendix A, attached to this brief.

2.1 The task

For your assigned site, you are required to produce a Technical Report and Proposal where you:
1. Review the specific conditions presented by that site and specify an appropriate set of construction solutions for both the foundations and ground floor assemblies that can be used for all 30 houses on the proposed development.
2. Defend and justify all of your technical choices with regards to the specific characteristics for your assigned building site.
3. Provide at least one technical section detail that graphically displays the junction between your proposed floor assembly and foundation designs within the specific context of the assigned site.
