Task: Assessment One- Critical Analysis Reading The purpose of this assessment is to promote engagement with the literature in child welfare and to promote the student's capacity to critically analyse an article using the Circles of Change Revisited (COCR) model of critical thinking. Assessment Description Students will select one reading from the following list: Parenting from the outside-in: Reflections on parent training during a potential paradigm shift - Joe Coyne (2013) What's in a number? Unsettling the boundaries of age - Virginia Morrow (2013) Early attachment relationships and the early childhood curriculum - Alejandra Cortazar, Francisca Herreros (2010) These readings are found under READINGS on the course site. Students will critically analyse the chosen article using the COCR model. You will need to research  a minimum of 3 other peer reviewed articles to help you critically anaylse your chosen reading. ONLY PEER REVIEWED ARTICLES AND YOUR TEXTBOOK WILL BE ACCEPTED as your references. Your reading summary must be 800 words, which can be written in the 1st or 3rd person. Your work needs to be referenced and include a short introduction and conclusion. General comments For your assessment, it needs to be clear how you have applied or used the COCR framework to structure your critical analysis on the issue(s) presented in the chosen article. To do this effectively, you will need to have separate paragraphs addressing each component of the framework - and feel free to use sub-headings to help you apply this structure. Writing Structure This assessment can be written in the 1 st or 3 rd person which ever suits you best as you will be unpacking your own thoughts and feeling on the key issues presented in the article and where your ideas are coming from. You will need to structure the short essay with an introduction (no more than one or two sentences) and a concluding statement.As academic writing is worth 5 marks it is important that you have your work proof read for spelling and grammar errors. Use correct paragraph and sentence structure and APA 6 referencing. If you are new to academic writing you may want to seek some additional tutoring support through students services.
