Assignment Task:

Abstract

Were the continents of this planet always situated the way they are today? Could there have been one supercontinent that over time broke off into the continents we know now? This theory, discovered by Alfred Wegener, was known as the drift theory. Wegener used the fit of the continents, the distribution of fossils, a similar sequence of rocks at numerous locations, ancient climates, and the apparent wandering of the Earth's Polar Regions to support his idea (Evidence Supporting Continental Drift).

Hypothesis

Dry and moist gravel should show the least amount of amplified shaking, making it the most stable of the three. Saturated gravel should show stable amounts with the possibility of slight sinking. Dry clay and sand should show heavy amounts of shaking resulting the coins to sink and topple over. Moist sand and clay should also be similar with the possibility of the clay to be slightly more stable. The coins in both soils will sink, slightly easier in the sand. Saturated sand and clay should be similar, with the sand to be slightly less stable, but both will result in the coins sinking.
