Assignment Task

Purpose

Students will write a Developmental Case Analysis Portfolio, using critical evaluation of relevant case studies to demonstrate their understanding of key childhood life stages and developmental theories, and to reflect on the application of those theories to professional counselling practice.

For each case study:

• Briefly introduce the case study and life stage you have chosen
• Provide an overview of developmental theory relevant to the case study.
• Discuss how the theory could be applied to this case study.
• Reflect on how you could apply the theory you describe to your own professional practice.

Each case study will include:

1. Brief introduction to the case study and life stage

2. Overview of relevant theory

• Definition of key concepts
• What is considered typical / atypical according to the theory?

3. Application of theory

• How can the theory in (1) be applied to this case study?
• What are the strengths / limitations of the theory when applied to the case?

4. Reflect on how your study of developmental theory from this case study will change your approach to your professional practice.
