Scenario:
Your client, iCreative, was satisfied with the advice you provided them with last time. They have decided to hire you again. Having accrued a vast amount of valuable data, and with intent to licence the company’s data to others, the CEO, Mr John Raye, has begun to take security more seriously.

Note: You may only use information concerning iCreative in this assignment if it has been provided within this document. Company information must not be carried over from the previous assignment.

About the company:
iCreative is a growing advertising company with, now, 4 branches. Some changes have been made to the company networks to accommodate this growth. The Brisbane branch is still the main branch for the company; however, there are smaller branches in Auckland, Launceston and Portland. Each branch has 5 departments with approximately 40 employees working in each department. The Brisbane branch now has a mail server, 2 file servers, 2 web servers, a DNS server, and 4 database servers. The smaller branches each now have a mail server, 2 database servers, and two file servers.

To the best of John’s knowledge, all of the company data, including all employees’ usernames and passwords for all branches, are being stored in plaintext form. John is concerned that employees’ credentials may be accessed from someone outside of the company and be used to obtain company data.

Part I Cryptography and Data Security
Given that John wishes to licence logistics data to partners he is very concerned about losing company data to competitors. He wants to share the data safely with authorised partners. John has asked that you include the following in your report:

• Explain how cryptography can keep the company’s data secure.
• Explain the purposes of employing BOTH symmetric and asymmetric cryptography in
o Securing the data; and
o Message authentication
• Explain data in transit and data at rest.
• Recommend and justify algorithm/s for data security for BOTH data in transit and data at rest.
• Recommend as to whether message authentication should be used by the company.
o If message authentication is recommended, then further recommend and justify cryptography algorithms appropriate for the message authentication task.
o If message authentication is not recommended, then you must justify why.

Part II Cryptographic Keys and User Authentication
As the company grows, John fears legitimate users may be impersonated to access company network resources. With regards to user authentication, your task is to make a recommendation on cryptography, including:
• Type/s of encryption;
• Cryptographic keys; and
• Algorithm/s.
You must also:
• Consider key distribution;
• Recommend a commercial software program for user authentication; and
• Explain and justify your recommendation clearly.

Part III Explore Secure Cloud Computing for Handling the Company's Data
You are required to explain the possibility of employing Cloud Computing (CC) for the company to protect valuable data. John needs to know what kind/s of CC service/s can be used as well as how data may be sent to an authorised partner securely using the Cloud.

John doesn’t understand how company data could be safe in the Cloud. So that he is well- informed, you will need to identify CC security risks and countermeasures. With these in mind, you must explain why you would or would not recommend CC to John.
