ASSESSMENT TASK 2:

DESCRIPTION

Prepare an analytical report and an associated presentation that describes the application and impact of one of the two information management technologies (Data Warehouse or Data Mining) for an industry sector (see options below) then appraise the use of this technology to an organisation of your choice. In this task you will: 
• Compile and document a sector analysis of the use of your selected information management technology (600 words) 
• Compile and document an organisational analysis of the use of your selected information management technology (400 words) 
• Present the analysis in a 5-minute business presentation. 
Part A: Industry sector analysis 
1. Select an industry sector from the list below 
• Agriculture/Aquaculture 
• Aged Care/Pharmaceuticals 
• Hospitality/Tourism 
• Communication development 
• Other (negotiated with your assessor) 
2. Select an information management technology (Data Warehouse or Data Mining). (Refer to Week 2 and Week 3 material on Data Warehouse and Data Mining and on case studies how organisations use these information management technologies) 
3. Analyse and document the impact of your selected information management technology for your selected industry sector. In your analysis you need to use the PESILE model (Refer to Week 2 to guide on how to perform PESILE analysis) and provide: 
a) A brief description of how your selected information management technology is used across the industry sectors above. Use a timeline or visual to illustrate this description 
b) A detailed description and analysis (using the PESIL model) for how your selected information management technology is used and has impacted on business practices for your selected industry sector 
c) Conduct a trend analysis aligned with the PESILE analysis that predicts how your selected information management technology will develop in this industry sector over the next 5-10 years 
d) Reference relevant industry information and links that have informed your analysis  above Your Part A (Industry sector analysis report) should be approximately 600 words.

Part B: Organisational analysis 
1. Select an organisation (can be a for profit, NFP, NGO) from the industry sector you analysed in Part A that is using the information management technology (Data Warehouse or Data Mining). Analyse and document the impact this information management technology has on this organisation. 
2. In your analysis you need to provide: 
a) A detailed description of the current use of this information management technology in the organisation 
b) A SWOT analysis ((Refer to Week 2 to guide on how to perform SWOT analysis) of how the information management technology has impacted on this organisation 
c) A technology trend analysis detailing how the information management technology could be leveraged by the organisation over the next 5-10 years. (This is based on the SWOT analysis) 
d) Reference links to relevant theoretical and organisational information 
Your Part B (Organisational analysis) report should be approximately 400 words. Compile your analysis into a 1000-word analytical report (Part A and B). Use tables, graphs and images where relevant. 
PART C: Analytical report presentation 
• Prepare a five (5) minute business presentation in a format of your choice that summarises the key information that could be presented to a senior executive who has responsibility for information management technology planning and purchasing. 
• (Refer to Week 3 to guide on how to prepare a business presentation for information management technologies)
