1. What is ‘medical paternalism’ and how does it apply to the clinical care of the patient in the case study.
2. Discuss obtaining informed consent from the patient in this case study, and how you would maintain patient autonomy, privacy and confidentiality as a Registered Nurse.
3. What are the implications for the nurse-patient therapeutic relationship when applying the ethical principles of beneficence and non-maleficence to this patient? In your answer consider the age, gender, ethnicity, family and social structure of the patient.
