Task: The student is to write a report to:
-Detail the OH&S documentation and how it is to be complied in relation to the construction of the "family" house 1".
- Prepare a checklist outlining the documentation required to start work on a new house in relation to structural requirements, site inspections and the industry professionals who you would engage to prepare them for you. Outline the professionals in your local work area that you would also contact to ensure that items that must meet BCA requirements such as bushfire risks, high winds, earthquake and alpine zonings are investigated for the house.

The student is to access a building site under construction and inspect it for structural adequacy in relation to-

  • Footings
  • Structural floor system (timber steel or concrete)
  • Structural wall systems
  • Structural roof system
  • Structural cladding (e.g. fibre cement or decorative ply cladding used as bracing)

The student is to make an inspection checklist covering all aspects of each of the stages and carry out the inspection onsite.
The student will then need to provide a copy of the inspection accompanied by a report stating why they are passing or not passing the structure. The report must include the clauses in the NCC (National Construction Code) or Australian Standard they have used to assess the structure.

Complete a work plan for the demolition of an existing structure on a site you propose to construct a new home on.
You will need to list and describe the documentation and permits required to carry out this work. The structure to be demolished is a 3 bedroom house high set that was constructed in the 1980s along with a free standing carport.

Documents you will need to attach with the demolition plan include:

  • Demolition plan (outline tasks to take place and personnel required to complete them)
  • Safety plan (including safe work method statements and checks to be performed for hazardous substances)
  • A list of permits required and authorities to gain approvals for the demolition and disconnection of services
  • Documents that would be required to make up the contracts to perform the work

You will also need to identify the class of buildings on the site.
