Project Task Scenario Overview

HIA Construction continues to pick up new work, and the business is going well.
HIA Construction is currently focusing on construction at Affordability Street. a three-bedroom brick veneer house. As your supervisor is away for a month, and the HIA Construction manager is handling other sites, a lot of your time during this project will be taken up reading and providing plan information to trades and clients as required.

Part One – Prepare to Estimate

Matt and Tammy Rohan, HIA Construction’s potential clients, have requested a quote on their new three-bedroom house. They have provided the design drawings for the brick veneer dwelling on this site.
As you will be providing an estimated quote for their house, you will need to collect and collate some preliminary information before you can begin by accessing the site plan.

Part Two – Identify and Calculate Labour Costs and Physical Resources

After determining the preliminary costs, you begin to prepare the costings for the estimate. Simone Jostle, the administrator for HIA Construction, has begun sending out quotes for the materials and consumables, and you have chosen to begin working out the labour and physical resources required. To assist you, Simone has also put together a GANTT schedule outlining the timeline for the project.

Part Three – Produce a Materials and Consumables Quantity List

Now that you have the preliminary costings and labour costings out of the way, you need to start preparing a materials and consumables list. HIA Construction uses a program called Buildxact to assist with preparing materials and consumables lists and estimating quantities.
Simone Jostle, the administrator for HIA Construction, has collected the quotes already and loaded them on an estimating template. However, there are some areas that had not been estimated.

Part Four – Complete the Estimate

Simone Jostle, the administrator for HIA Construction, advises you that there is an existing catalogue for HIA Construction’s main supplier, All Around Builders Supplies. In order to access this catalogue for the estimate, you will need to upload the catalogue to Buildxact.

Matt and Tammy were undecided on the colour of the brickwork when the first quotes when out, but they have since requested that the brick on the external wall be terracotta coloured. You know that your preferred supplier, All Around Builder Supplies, has multiple different colours available.
