Assignment Task:

Your tasks
Carry out the following six (6) tasks based on the scenario above.
You can use Excel as the format for creating and submitting your site diary, with each document as a separate tab. Watch this video for instructions for using Excel. This is also provided in the Assessment Toolbox at the end of each module.
Alternatively you can create a Word document including table formats if you prefer.

Task 1: Develop a Progress Claim
Develop a typical Progress Claim (invoice), for site establishment and ground works including the following items:
Total project cost overall                $42,500.00 including GST
Progress claim 1: as below, all figures exclude GST
Establish temporary services                $ 2500.00
Contractor to clear the site to required levels        $ 1350.00
Builder’s on-costs as per contract 5% per claim
GST to be added at the end
Total amount left to claim
Basic invoice requirements can be viewed at the Australian Tax Office. Remember to create your invoice in the context of the shed building.
Complete this item as tab 1, Task 1 – PC 1 on your excel document or as Task 1 Progress Claim on your Word document.
Office use only – Assessors feedback

Task 2: Produce a notice of variation
a)Produce a notice of variation to the contract that covers an increase in ground works costs. Jai estimates that excess spoil is to be removed which is over the original bill of quantities – he estimates this to be an extra 1.5m³, at a rate of $1150.00 per/m³. Jai needs to follow protocol and submit the variation notice.
A good example of a notice of variation form can be found at Recoup Contractor Debt Recovery
Note: Try to keep your forms uniform to save you some work. Copy and paste the basic information from one form to the next, and just change the headings etc. This is good practice for your own business as well as it looks professional.
b)Describe how you would communicate with the client about requests for extensions of time for project variations to be completed. (Maximum 100 words)

Task 3: Develop a site instruction form
Develop a site instruction (SI) form to communicate information to ensure specific aspects of the construction are communicated.
You need to send the SI to the Fair Dinkum Shed company who is providing the shed for the King’s residence. Go to page 45 of their installation guide and refer to the window size being provided as item 8 in the schedule. In your SI you need to request a height change in the window to be 1200mm high, as per your client’s request. In the SI you also need to verify the manufacturer’s compliance to the current standard.
A sample site instruction (SI) form can be viewed at Scribd Site Instruction use this as a guide don’t download it.
For reference to current standard information on windows, access the NCC Standards interactive house.

Task 4: Site Safety Policy
Throughout the construction of the Fair Dinkum Shed, you need to ensure a site safety policy for Sullivon Constructions is implemented effectively. WorkSafe Tasmania have a range of sample forms and policies to assist you.  Use this guide to complete the following:
•Open and read the sample policy from the website of WorkSafe Tasmania which is also located in your additional resources folder
•Identify three (3) aspects of the policy that you would expect to be implemented on Sullivon Constructions work sites.
•Provide a written summary of how these three (3) aspects of the policy will be incorporated in the safety requirements when building the shed. (Word count: 50-200 words)

Task 5: Develop a quality checklist
a)Develop a quality checklist for the erection of the shed, as per Fair dinkum Shed and create this on your next tab on the Excel document or on a new page in Word. You may choose to go to the previous links for an idea on what items to list, or use what you know from the learning or do your own research.
b)As part of the quality checking process, describe how you would go about making an insurance claim for loss or damage during the shed construction process. (Maximum 100 words)

Task 6: Rectify defects and handover to client
To complete the shed project, you now need to look at possible defects in the shed construction. Imagine the shed build is complete using the Fair Dinkum Shed supplier information as the basis for materials etc used.
Through a quality check of the shed, you noted the roller door lock is faulty and the spalling to the edge of the concrete needs repair. There are also another three (3) faulty items.
a)Create a defects list that includes the two faulty items identified above and an additional three items of your choice. (Five (5) items in total)
b)To rectify the defects, draft a site instruction (SI) to submit to the suppliers/contractors for the shed. A duplicate copy will be sent to your management at Sullivon Constructions for their records.
c)Outline the handover process you would use including the types of certificates and warranties you would provide to the client. (Maximum 100 words)
