Part 1: Practical Tasks
Scenario

Working as a construction professional will be demonstrating your capabilities to successfully identify services requirements, layouts and connections for a multi storey building projects. Your role requires you to identify and evaluate services layouts to comply with building codes, regulations and standards.
You will carry out an analysis of project plans and specifications, and apply design concepts by producing sketch overlays, schematics and reports to be appraised by managers and specialist consultants, in order to assist with the coordination and management of the projects.

Task 1: Produce sketch layouts for services
Task 1.1
Referring to the TopMast Tower - Architecturals-V0520 (Topic_Building_SR39) plans and specifications, and using notated diagrams, overlays and written descriptions, document the possible solutions for the supply of potable water to the building considering the following requirements:
A range of pumping configurations that could be used.
Header tank storage arrangements noting the limitations of their use.
Pressure control considering the buildings height.
References to the Codes and standards.

Task 1.2
Referring to the TopMast Tower - Architecturals-V0520 (Topic_Building_SR39) plans and specifications, provide overlay sketches of the sanitary drainage layout for the building on selected drawings as detailed below:
A vertical overlay to drawings A040 and A041
A Plan overlay to drawings A020 and A034
The sketches are to include the following elements:
The use of standard drawing conventions and symbols relevant to the service installation.
Position and connections to stacks
Include a table describing the number and type of fixtures and fixture unit loading of the drain and correct sizing of the upstream vent.
Determine and draw an appropriate stack type and venting arrangements assessed with reference to the number of fixtures in the dwelling.
Method of discharge from basement to the authority’s mains sewer assuming main line is higher than fixture.
Separate diagram showing the details for a suitable soffit connection to mains drainage line.

Task 1.3
Referring to the TopMast Tower - Architecturals-V0520 (Topic_Building_SR39) plans and specifications, identify possible prohibited discharges from the commercial kitchen, medical, dental and pathology suites and fully describe a method to collect and treat these discharges including how these may be monitored. Provide references to applicable regulatory requirements, legislation and the relevant Codes and Standards.

Referring to the TopMast Tower - Architecturals-V0520 (Topic_Building_SR39) plans and specifications, sketch an overlay of a proposed layout for suitable mechanical ventilation and air distribution methods servicing each of the following areas:
Basement carpark
Ground level restaurant
The sketch will include the following elements:
Notations on the sketch referencing the Codes and Standards.
The use of standard drawing conventions and symbols relevant to the service installation.
Show all duct routing, and ventilation methods appropriate to the design of the building including the use of supply air including for AC units, and exhaust air as required.
Incorporate complimentary air distribution methods.
Plant and equipment placements.
