Joubert et al. state that There is a viewpoint that the South African Criminal Justice system is offender-orientated to the detriment of the rights and interests of victims and other witnesse. It has also been argued that current victim support measures - which should cover the pre-trial, trial, and post-trial stages - are inadequate and, where they do exist, are uncoordinated, limited and under-utilized.
With the above statement in mind, discuss the role of victims in the criminal justice system. Your answer should include an explanation of the remedies available to protect victims in criminal procedure.
