Description:
Students to create a Sampler Instrument or Soundpack and accompanying demo using either Logic’s ‘Sampler’ or Abletons ‘Sampler’ or the third party ‘CWITEC T16Wx Sampler’ if using Pro Tools.
The Sampler Instrument / Soundpack:
• Must have a minimum of 24 different samples. More may be used if required.
• These samples must be recorded by you. You may not use samples recorded by another person or from another sampler instrument.
• Students must use the following samplers to complete their assessment: Logic's Sampler; Ableton's Sampler (not Simpler); or CWITEC T16Wx Sampler.
• Students must supply their assessment in a Logic or Ableton or Pro Tools session only. It is highly recommended that students test all files load without issue on a separate computer to the one used to create the sampler/demo song.
• Eight of the triggered sounds must be velocity layered.
The Demo Song:
Students are to create a short MIDI demo in either Logic, Ableton or Pro Tools (approx. 1 minute in duration) that shows the potential context of the Sampler Instrument / Soundpack. This should be considered as a marketing tool, as if the sampler instrument was to be made commercially available. The demo cannot use any other instrument, it must be your Sampler / Soundpack only and no additional plugin effect, except for a touch of reverb.

You must also complete a written 500-word portfolio /report in PDF format, that contains a brief description of the Instrument / Soundpack, describing the process you took to complete your Sampler Instrument/Soundpack. You should note any research and planning you did, the logic behind your sample mapping, how you recorded and edited the samples and the reasons why you made your decisions. There must also be an evaluation of your work and reference to how you would do the process differently to improve the result. It is highly advisable to include lots of photos and screen-grabs. The photos and screen-grabs must be embedded into the report (not as separate images).
