The spec

James, Ayesha, Zara and Vinh* work in the Places** group at Swinburne. In response to a recent call for new ideas to attract people back to campus as WFH restrictions end***, they have been working on a bike share system to enable staff, students and community members to borrow bikes, either for short term trips or long-term loan. They have procured the bikes (both regular and electric bikes) and have identified some locations to set up docks for bike parking.
The idea is to encourage people to try out a different transport mode as well as provide options to new students for exploring their new neighborhood, e.g., without having to pay for a bike or car outright. While they can make bookings via the Facilities office, they would like an automated solution for users to reserve a bike. They are particularly interested in a solution that they can easily maintain themselves, as none of them have experience in creating applications (but can fix a bike!).
They need to keep records of each user for tracking purposes, as well as details of each bike, including whether it is out of service for maintenance or other reasons. Each location needs a count of how many bikes are currently available for loan. They also think that trips could be limited by assigning users credits which they can use to “pay” for their ride. Users should be able to rate the bike as well on completion of their trip.

The aim-  of this task is to research the problem provided and explore a number of learning issues. This task will demonstrate your ability to generate learning issues and research questions, find and synthesise relevant materials for a topic, and recommend a path forward based on the information presented. Presentation/writing skills are also being assessed.
This is an individual task with a fixed deadline -- late penalties apply beyond the due date and no submissions will be accepted after the closing date.
