Highlights
The goal of this assignment is to increase your understanding and recognition of appropriate early learning and care environments. You have been given a basic overview of Infant and Toddler care and should now know the basics of what constitutes “Good spaces for Infants and Toddlers”.
You will need to be working in and Infant and Toddler Program or have access to one to gather and document your information. You can combine observations in a centre plus discussions with co-workers, parents, and/or workers in order to gather your information.
Please remember the goal is not simply to justify a centre’s practice (or your own), nor to criticize a centre, but to apply your knowledge learned from the Unit One, in a meaningful way. Every program (and staff) will have strengths and areas to improve upon. Critical reflection is key to gaining the most from this assignment.
Use the following questions (remembering that they are from the child’s perspective) from the lesson and other material studied to date to guide your work in the 3 sections that follow these questions
Create a minimum 5 page word and photo document that tells the story of one infant’s or toddler’s experience of their care centre by addressing these 3 sections (again, remembering that they are from the child’s perspective):
a. What is working for me:
b. What is not working for me:
c. What I would change and how I would change it:
d. Write a summary of key learning (this is from your perspective)
