• 2. Intertextual/Historical: This paper asks the question, “What kind of intertextual conversation was  the Mahabharata (or Gita) having with earlier layers of Indian religious cultural history?”

• The aim would be to take up one idea, theme, issue, problem that is found in  the Mah?bh?rata/G?t? and compare it with another, earlier tradition that we have studied,  such as Vedic mythology or ritual, Upani?adic, Buddhist, or Jain philosophy, or later ones, like  the classical pur??ic myths of ?iva or Vi??u. 
• You will be asked to use at least ONE published external scholarly source on the Mahabharata  to support your claims.
