Introduction
A critical analysis is a systematic method by which the worthiness of the research paper or a journal article can be evaluated, to find the relevance of the context (Umesh, Karippacheril & Magazine, 2016). This paper aims to critically analyze an online article while considering bias implications, judgment, correct information, and balanced sources.
Bias implications
The author, in the article, discusses personal experience considering two methods for weight-loss treatment: gastric band surgery and a superfast diet. In this, only the second choice proved to be satisfactory for her. This decision of treating her obesity was a result of personal choice and business was evident in the article. This is because the author never referred to any resource before coming to this decision. A biased decision can damage the validity of the content and can lead to incorrect estimation of the information provided through the article (Althubaiti, 2016). People believe in what they read and if the content is biased then automatically their thinking also becomes biased towards the concerned issue.
Judgment
Considering the article, the information provided by the author about gastric band surgery and a superfast diet is correct but the author was biased towards her decision of weight-loss treatment as the treatment methods were not based on evidence. Moreover, the choices were influenced by the limited choices and personal satisfaction related to the physical appearance of the author.
Correct information
Gastric band surgery was found to be only 35% to 45% effective. However, the results may vary from person to person (Nowak, Ren-Fielding & Allen, 2019). Along with this, the surgery was associated with several side-effects such as vomiting, minor surgical complications, and nausea, and this is also seen in the case of this lady. On the other hand, a superfast diet is there for 30 years and it has never disappointed the people (Black, & Davidson, 2019).
Balanced sources
This article has provided a balanced and correct source of information regarding the weight-loss treatments used. However, it lacked support from critical and reviewed sources. Nevertheless, the article can be used as a source of information for readers because of facts and images relating to the author’s life experience have also been provided.
