Assignment Task

Write a well-structured essay of words in which you critique the article. In your essay, summarise what the paper is about, and analyse the article. You should support your analysis with references to the article, i.e. give page numbers or short quotations when referring to a specific section of the article. The bullet points below are guidelines for what should be included in the analysis, and you must address each question not as a question-answer method but rather as a coherent and flowing essay.

Below are guidelines for what your essay should cover; however, DO NOT write in bullet form.

  • What was the purpose of the study?
  • Do the researchers give a strong argument for the need for this research? Motivate your response
  • Are the research questions clearly stated? If so, are they appropriate? What do you think the question(s) were if they are not clearly stated?
  • Is there a literature review that outlines previous research relevant to the topic? Is it a comprehensive review? Does it offer a critique of the literature?
  • Which paradigm does this research fit into, and what is the style of the research?
  • Sampling : How were the participants for the study selected?
  • Is the data collection method clearly described? Was it appropriate, and why/why not? What are the limitations of this method in this particular study?
  • According to the information given in the article, is the research design coherent? Are the paradigm, style, and other research methods logically aligned?
  • Do the authors give details about how they analysed the data? Was the analysis deductive, inductive or a combination?
  • Do the authors mention ethical issues ? If none is mentioned, are there any that should be mentioned?
  • What were the key findings of the study? Did they answer the research question? Is the title of the paper a good reflection of the key findings? Does the article give you enough information (evidence from the data) to support their conclusions?
  • What suggestions/recommendations did they offer? Are these recommendations based on the findings of the paper?
  • Given the sampling procedures used, to what extent can the findings be generalized/transferred beyond the sample?

What were some strengths and weaknesses of the study? How valid or trustworthy was their study? Why do you say so? Consider all the relevant types of validity/trustworthiness.
