Are all the characters portrayed as able-bodied? Does it show different mental health statuses? Does the book show different ways to view the same topic?
Do all characters have the same level of wealth? Is the book assuming valued children will have access to the same amount of toys / books / resources?
Are poorer people ‘othered’? Does it acknowledge that not everyone can afford what’s shown in the book?
Are the older characters assumed to have more power (e.g., they can decide what happens for younger people), or be more valued than younger people?
Is there any portrayal of what life might be like with different immigration statuses? Or is everyone a permanent resident?
Are there religious symbols present? Is it showing that it’s okay that people have different beliefs?
Is it showing that there are different skin colours and that’s nothing to worry about? Is it acknowledging that people of colours have had less access to resources?
Are there any gay, non-binary, or other LGBTIQ+ characters?
Are characters engaging in stereotyped activities (cooking girls, wood-working boys, etc.)? Is it identifying that society has these silly, antiquated ideas that boys can’t do certain things and girls others?
What evidence is there?
Discuss the pictures, quote the words, etc. Give brief evidence of it after claiming it is affirmed or challenged?
