Overview

The purpose of this assessment task is to apply relevant concepts from the subject materials, in-class discussions and readings to develop a clear understanding of how social enterprises operate in order to achieve their social outcomes and organisational sustainability.

Details

Using a wide variety of secondary materials, including books, journals, videos and the Internet, conduct a critical analysis of any Social Enterprise, from any service or social sector. Your case analysis should indicate your analytical understanding of social entrepreneurship practices and make links with relevant concepts under the framework of business, governance and social responsibility. Students may study any social enterprise of their choosing, according to their personal or professional interests.

Your case analysis should include:

An analytical synthesis (approx.words) of the main characteristics of the social enterprise, with particular reference to its:

• Place in the specific service or social sector (indicating its focus) Organisational identity (indicating its mission, vision and history)
• Governance structure-Leadership and human resource capability-Stakeholders and their perspectives
• Approach to economic sustainability–Brand, image or marketing focus

An analytical evaluation of the strategies employed by the social enterprise, with particular reference to the opportunities and risks (approx. words).

If some of this information cannot be obtained from publicly available secondary sources, students should make careful inferences based on the available information and should highlight the importance of the missing information for understanding the practice of social enterprise.

A minimum of Eight references are required, including the webpage of the social enterprise.
