Assignment Task:

Evaluation of the Rapid response team on identifying clinical deterioration among hospitalized patients as per National safety and quality health standards.

Background and potential benefits of exploring the issue

Clinical deterioration can be understood as a dynamic phase of life that is experienced by the individual who has been compromising health stability or have been marked by any physiological decompensation (Padilla and Mayo 2018). Standard 9  of NSQHS focuses on recognising and responding to the clinical deterioration of the patient is directly associated with the patient safety which is the topmost priority of the healthcare professionals (Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care 2017; Considine et al. 2018). In order to abide by the national standards, healthcare services have certain systems in the settings to recognise and respond to clinical deterioration (Considine et al. 2018). These are the rapid response systems that have rapid response teams which are considered as their key elements . Rapid response team-based rescue systems have been developed in the response to the evidence that has been experienced by many deteriorating hospital patients regarding failure to rescue. This often results in developing some serious adverse events such as cardiac arrest, death, and unplanned ICU admission (Lyons, Edelson and Churpek 2018). Implementation of the rapid response teams in the hospital setting has been found to have potential benefits in reducing the code blue events along with its attendant mortality rates. The rapid response team’s expansion seems to be highly effective in case of deteriorating or long-term ill patients that often need urgent critical nursing interventions (Rashid et al. 2014). The rapid response teams provide continuous monitoring of the multiple variables of the patients that have been admitted to ICUs or any high dependency units (Vincent et al. 2018 ).
