Highlights
In this individual written assessment, you will be required to draw together concepts to produce a reflective and knowledge-based portfolio.
This assessment task is based on a patient clinical scenario where you are expected to apply clinical reasoning and critical thinking to develop a plan of care.
Through application of critical thinking, clinical reasoning and reflection you are to explore the key concepts: clinical leadership, advocacy, delegation, ethical decision making and scope of practice.
A. Reflection
Clinical Leadership – Reflect on the clinical leadership you have seen while on clinical placement, was this positive or negative experience, and why? Explain your answer and support with evidence (davis stanley NURSING reference compulsory)
In addition to your answer:
Graduate nurses are required to develop and enhance many skills as they transition as an RN into the nursing profession. Provide an argument supported with evidence, that either supports or disagrees with this question
B. Clinical Scenario - Knowledge- based
You are a graduate nurse and are working your first set of night shift. You and another RN are checking medication (Temazepam) for a patient. When counting the medications you notice that the count is incorrect with 1 tablet (10mg) unaccounted for. You mentioned this to RN who replies “Oh, it probably fell on the floor. We would need to discard anyway. Just write medication discarded in the book.” You ask whether this should be reported and are told “It’s too much paperwork, and if you complete the Riskman, you’ll get the blame."
How do you manage this situation? In your answer consider the RN standards for practice and Code of conduct.
