Background
The last 2 decades have seen the widespread use of processors that support multiple cores that can act as independent CPUs. Today, even processors used in smartphones contain 4 or more cores. Software has been slow to catch up, despite calls for programming models that make it easy to write scalable programs for multicore systems.
Note
To obtain a performance score, you must have met minimum functionality requirements since there is little point in investigating the performance of non-functional or buggy code. Before the project deadline, we will publish the specific performance requirements, which depend on the current semester’s hardware and software environment; see scoreboard above.
