Assignment Task:

Mr.  Roberts, the owner of a Furniture Stores wants to improve the efficiency of its business by using a new information system. He described his business as follows:

We have eight salespeople in each store at 10 different locations. As the customers come in, they greet them and ask them what kind of furniture they are looking for.  The customer has three options: buy a furniture in stock, order (through us) from the furniture manufacturer, or get a furniture transferred from another store (e.g., when the customer wants a furniture similar to one in stock but in blue instead of in black). 

Customers can browse our online categories for orderings and purchases. The categories of furniture include: Dining Room, Living Room, Bedroom Office, Outdoor and Kids furniture. The web site is also used for advertising new products, promotion sales, new services, and category menu for search different types of furniture. 

We record our loyal customers in our database to offer discounts for their furniture purchases. We have “weekly specials” where some furniture is offered with discount in the store. Customers receive newsletters by emails monthly for the new events and promotions. 

One senior staff is to maintain the inventory of furniture for whole business.  The staff also records the current and new arrivals of furniture. The prices the furniture need to be decided based on the quality, materials and styles. 

The salespeople work on a small salary, but most of their income is from the commission that they earn by selling furniture. There is an incentive program that awards salespeople by higher commission percentages as they sell more. We like to keep track of our salespeople’s performance and we choose a “salesperson of the year” who receives a bonus.     

We also have contract with a delivery company for carrying furniture to our customers with a fixed fee. They always insure the delivery of the ordered furniture no more than 3 days of the purchase day. The accountant needs to report the business & finance revenue to the manager monthly. 

Mr. Roberts wishes to provide their services efficiently and effectively; they want to have a clear view of the Furniture stores performance. The new information system should include major business activities such as point of sales including online purchases, furniture delivery scheduling, salesperson management, inventory management, and accounting management.

Domain Analysis

1. Create an owner’s view for the system that you can show it to stakeholders for feedback.

2. Write domain definitions and, from there, proceed to establish the domain scope for the system and each subsystem.

3.Identify the domain concepts from the domain definition and scopes. Categorise the concepts into processes, functions, roles, objects, and business rules.

Behavioural Modelling

After completing the domain analysis, you are ready to start use case modelling.  Using subsystem “Furniture Sales” in the proposed Furniture Stores information system for behavioural modelling.  Please make sure that you use the domain concepts identified during the domain analysis activity as the basis for behavioural modelling.

1. Identify stakeholders of the whole system. List them with descriptions using the following table template.

2.Complete a use case template for a use case that relates to a customer acquiring a furniture at a store. Use the blank template below.

1. Create a use case diagram for “sales management” of Furniture Stores including all use cases you identified in step a) plus any derived use cases in the subsystem. Make sure you identify the dependency (include & extend) relationships where applicable.

2. Create an activity diagram for the purchase furniture in the sales subsystem(s).

After completing the behavioural modelling, you will continue with structural and dynamic modelling.

1. Identify classes for the Furniture Stores IS. List each class, along with responsibilities and the use cases they are associated with

2. Create a complete class diagram of Purchase furniture of a customer for the point of view on associations and multiplicity information in the Furniture Stores IS. 

3. Create a sequence diagram for the process of a custom selecting furniture and completing an online order on the Furniture Stores website.

4. Questions: Is there any relationship between classes that can be described by aggregation/composition? Are there classes that can be generalized/specialized?
