The project proposal consists of two parts: the project proposal text with references and appendixes and the Gantt chart.

The Project Proposal Text

• Write a project proposal for your chosen project topic. 

• If you have not yet chosen a topic, you must choose a topic right now. There is absolutely no way around it. For instructions on how to go about choosing a topic refer to the lecture slides in week 21. The main point is to read the most relevant academic literature related to your potential topics and then make a choice. This does not automatically mean that your will this topic as it is. Once you have moved to the project stage of your studies (you must pass all taught modules), you should take the proposal to your supervisor and discuss it with him. He most likely will suggest some changes.

• The proposal text should not be longer than 1250 words

• Use the proposal template provided on Unihub

• The proposal template contains instructions for each section with suggestion of word limits

• Keep all headings and justify, if you don’t write anything related to this section

The Gantt Chart

• The proposal has to come with a Gantt chart

• Download the software ‘GanttProject’. It is free of charge.

• Using GanttProject, make a Gantt chart planning the activities of your project until submission

• Define the high level activities/tasks to be carried out and break them down at least two levels deep and not more than three

• Define the duration for each leaf task

• Define the dependencies between tasks and task groups

• Put in the milestones to break up the project into distinct phases that produce a deliverable. Minimum is to put in a milestone for the submission of the project report and all its appendixes and the Gantt chart.

• When you save the Gantt chart, you must not use spaces for the file name. The file name has to be a string of letters without any blanks. 

• A sample Gantt chart is available on Unihub to show what the expected Gantt chart should look like. It is a Gantt chart for developing a project proposal. You have to make a Gantt chart for your carrying out your project. 

• It is understood that it is difficult to make a choice of topic and plan a project. This is NOT an excuse for now doing it. 

Submission

• The submission deadline is Friday of week 25, i.e. the week after teaching has finished. In 202 that is the Friday after the Easter holidays, 24th of April.

• Submit to the online link on Unihub.

• Submit the proposal and the Gantt chart at the same time but as separate files. The proposal  file has to be uploaded as Part 1 and the Gantt chart file as Part 2.

• Submit the proposal as a word file.  Any documentation on paper has to be scanned and included in the word file. 

• Submit the Gantt chart as a GanttProject file (.gan)
