Cumulative Learning and Sustained Engagement Assignment

Assignment Task

This exam is meant to evaluate the knowledge that you have developed over the course of the semester. As such, the exam is cumulative - you are expected to draw from the entire course in order to answer the question posed by this assessment. It is an open-book exam, you must draw from ALL relevant course material (lectures, films, textbook, and assigned articles). To further clarify, I do not expect you to cite every single youtube video that I have assigned, cite only what is relevant for your particular essay. However, I do expect citations from the course text and lectures and that you develop and present a well-rounded response that demonstrates your understanding of and engagement with these materials. It must be words in length. Outside sources (ie. any materials that were not assigned for the course) are not permitted. A bibliography and proper citation in Chicago Style is a requirement. Your response must be formatted as an essay, complete with an introduction and conclusion.

Essay

Using your course materials as reference write a cohesive, well-organized, well written essay that answers the following: The story of Hinduism is the story of a tradition that has continually changed and adapted, modifying itself in response to both internal and external forces. Drawing upon the entirety of the course, discuss the historical development of Hinduism while paying close attention to how the orthodox tradition ("Great Tradition") adapted to the changes that arose in each period.

Content and development - how well you understand the concepts that are central to the Hindu tradition and how effectively you utilize course material to answer the question(s) posed of you. Academic writing style and focus - You should aim to maintain an unbiased tone in your writing. Further, you should present your discussion in a clear, concise manner and avoid introducing material that is irrelevant to your topic.
