PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT AND EXAM OBJECTIVES
A boxcut for a portal to a new underground mine is being proposed in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, Figure 1. The boxcut will provide access to a new mine targeting high grade iron ore in the general location shown in Figure 2. The boxcut excavation will be oriented north to south within the area nominated in Figure 3. The portal is planned to be established at around RL 640-650m with a floor dimension of 350m wide and a maximum ramp grade of 8% (~4.5°). A typical plan of a box cut layout is shown in Figure 4.

GEOLOGICAL SETTING
3.1 Regional Geology
The site is located within the Pilbara Craton of north-western Australia, Figure 1. The granite-greenstone basement rocks of the Craton are unconformably overlain by Archean age Hamersley Basin rocks, which host the high grade iron ore that will be targeted by the new underground mine, Figures 2 and 3. These rocks are in turn unconformably overlain by rocks and soils from two further periods of significant deposition in the Tertiary and then the Quaternary.
