Fluid electrical conductivity (EC). Please complete the following tasks: 

Explore the fluid conductivity distribution by creating meaningful plots. Provide an interpretation of flow directions and sources of water based on your plots; the cross section in Figure 2; and the hydraulic head data provided in Tab. 1. Briefly write your reasoning. 

Draw the subsurface seawater distribution and your interpreted flow lines on a version of Figure 2 that you hand in as part of your assignment. 

Hints: Assume that the creek surface water has an average hydraulic head of 0 mAHD (meter Australian Height Datum). Also note that the creek is tidal and has varying salinity. Remember that saltwater is heavier than freshwater! 

PART 2 [15 Marks] 

The hydrochemistry data for HH2 are given in Table 2 (some seawater data from the ocean close by is included for reference). Please complete the following tasks: 

(a) Make an assessment of the accuracy of data given in Table 2. For this you will need to convert the relevant ions to milli-equivalents (meq/L). 

(b) Present the dataset by preparing depth profiles of the important parameters, a piper diagram and other key plots (that you think are helpful for interpreting the data). 

(c) What major geochemical processes can you deduce from the data in Table 2? Write the proper reaction equation for each process. 

(d) From the hydrochemical data presented, form a hypothesis about the hydrogeological conditions at this site. Based on your new hydrochemical knowledge, do you need to revise your interpretation in Part 1b)?
