ASSIGNMENT TASK:

TASK:

This assignment requires you to demonstrate skills in data gathering, analysis, interpretation and presentation. You must: invite a volunteer to perform a task on a website while using the think- aloud technique; collect data about the user’s experience by making an audio recording of what they say during the task; transcribe the recording; code the transcript for significant incidents; and write a report that presents your findings.

Data gathering

Invite a volunteer to assist you with this assignment and provide them with a copy of the Project Information Sheet that appears at the end of this assignment. The user who you invite may be a friend, family member, student or stranger, but it is important that they are not a current student in this unit and they have not performed this task before (e.g. for another student in this unit).

Data analysis

After recording the think-aloud session, make a transcription of it. This means you must play the audio recording to yourself and write down what the user said, word-for-word. Save the transcript as a Microsoft Word file named transcript.docx. Read the transcript, looking for incidents—comments, events, actions, ideas and so on—that are significant to the user’s experience or the design of the website. For example, you might consider the following incident to be significant because of the disorientation expressed by the user.
