Highlights
Your assignment will be in the form of a mini-research project and will cover the topic Data Handling. Since data handling (or statistics) is about solving problems or getting answers to questions in real-life, best practise is to explore it within a real-life context. For your assignment you will identify something in your environment to do some research on, collect the data, process it, and draw conclusions. This process document will then be submitted as your assignment. What to research: You may either decide on something you would like to find out more on, or you can approach a business/third party in your area, tell them about your project and ask what they would like to find out more about keep it simple though. Individual / group project: You may do this project individually or in pairs (2 people). Submission: Your submission must be done through Turnitin and be in MS Word format. You will type up the information, but will also include pictures of hand-drawn graphs or such in the document. If you work in pairs, one person will submit and the marks will be entered under both participants in MyEmbury. Your submission must have a front page with the name, surname and student number of all who worked on the project. If you work in pairs, both participants' names have to be clearly indicated on the front page of the document at submission for both to qualify for the marks. No names/participants may be added after submission. Below is an outline of the headings/sections that need to feature in your submission. A MS Word document with these headings will be uploaded, which you will use as a ProForma to type in your information. What is in BLUE in the ProForma needs to be replaced (in black) by the appropriate information. The golden thread: Your project must focus on ONE research question, all the parts of the assignment must refer to the same topic, that runs through it like a golden thread. Therefore, you cannot start with a question on how many boys vs girls visit the library in the week, collect date on how many cars drive past your house, and talk about whether dogs make good pets in your conclusion. The project, and report you will submit, follows ONE theme/question through all the phases of research. Should latter parts of the report not refer to the original question and work, and the 'golden thread' not follow through the whole assignment, it will be marked incorrect, as the information will not be relevant to the research set out to do.
