Introduction (with sub-sections if needed)
The Introduction should concisely and convincingly provide a rationale to justify the need for the study that is being proposed. This will include consideration of the importance of the area, past research in the area (highlighting inconsistencies and/or controversies), relevant theoretical considerations, and gaps in our current understanding. Critical appraisal of the literature, such as consideration of the quality of the available evidence, is thus an essential component of the Introduction.

If a directional hypothesis is not appropriate, the hypotheses should be phrased as being ‘exploratory’.

The Method section should provide sufficient detail to enable the study to be replicated. Only include information that is pertinent to testing the study aims and hypotheses and details that may impact the study outcomes or the interpretation of those outcomes. Include a statement as to whether the study has ethical approval.
