In this modelling project, the main goal is to build and simulate a three-phase inverter model in PSCAD while its operating in square wave switching mode. Software
simulations are first step towards understanding the real-world operations of any system.
In the project students are required to acquire voltage and current signals and analyse them.
In the end, students are required to submit a report on their finding and conclusions from the model along with the .pscx file on Canvas
Introduction
1. Square Wave Operation in Three – Phase Inverters
If the input dc voltage Vd is controllable, the inverter as shown below ,can be operated in Square-Wave Switching mode. Here each switch is on for 180° ( i.e., its duty ratio is 50%). So at any instant of time three switched are on. Also, all the three legs are 120° apart, since its a three phase operation .
System Configuration
The following circuit configuration is expected to be simulated in PSCAD. It’s a three phase inverter, connected to a three phase load (similar to question 8-13 from HW#3).
The parameters are provide down below in Table 1
PSCAD Report should have these following items:
1) Snapshot of complete circuit model, including switching pulse model, same as in PSCAD simulation.
2) Graphs of VAN, VBN, VCN, VAn, VBn VCn , id, iA, and VAB.
3) Perform FFT on VAN, VAn, and iA, and provide magnitude and phase plots till n = 15.
4) All the necessary calculation and assumptions.
Report should also include answers/ comments to following questions:
Q.1) What comments can you make for input side Current ?
Q.2) What comments can you make from FFT plot of VAN, VAn?
Q.3) Are the waveforms like what we study in theory in respect to peak value of the Voltages ?
