• Design and implement an IPv6 addressing scheme that fulfills the requirements
• Configure multi-area OSPFv2 to enable internetwork communications business network
• Implement advanced OSPF features to enhance operation in a business network
• Configure basic OSPFv3 to enable internetwork communications in a IPv6 business network
• Design, configure and verify LACP, RSTP,FHRP, PortFast, EdgePorts
• Create detailed design documentation for your proposed network
• Implement an operational network based on your network design
• Explain your implementation and demonstrate its operation
• Produce documentation of your testing and network configuration for use by others to maintain and expand the network
REQUIRED RESOURCES
• You can use one of several options available to you to complete your capstone ie: GNS3or the physical equipment available to you through remote access to complete the assignment.
• Computers, (as needed) connected via network cable will be required to complete testing. You can also use loopback addressing to emulate end devices (as needed).
• Word processing software and network diagram drawing software. (Microsoft Word, Excel and Visio are good options of this but any equivalent is acceptable)
• Packet Tracer topologies are not acceptable.
MISCELLANEOUS NOTES
• In this capstone, replace all occurrence of ‘xxx’ with your group number (i.e. if you belong to group 64, and the project requires you to useforExample:the IP address of 192.168.xxx.0 /24 in your addressing / configuration, you will utilize the IP address 192.168.64.0/24).
• For the capstone, where appropriate, you are allowed to utilize loopback interfaces and / or VLANs to simulate LAN segments.
• Assume that all ports on all the switches are Gigabit ports – ie: in room H218 or GNS where the switches have FastEthernet ports, treat these ports as Gigabit ports.
• Please use the discussion box available on DC connect as a communication tool within your group. The discussion box will be used to demonstrate your contribution to the group project.
PHASE 1 – DESIGN AND ADDRESSING
Scenario
You are employed as a member of the IT department for an Advertisingcompany called “AdvertiseYou.com”.The company currently has a single regional site in Ontario with a single primary office located in Toronto, Ontario.
The company has recently received financial investment to allow it to expand into other provinces in Canada and grow its brand. The company plans to add a second office in Toronto and then add two regional sitesinQuebec and Manitoba respectively. Each regional office will also contain 2 offices based in their respective geographic location.
Before theopening of the two regional sites in Quebec and Manitoba, the company has to redesign its current network in Toronto by adding the second office. The design used in the Ontario region with its two offices in Toronto will serve as a template for the other sites in Quebec and Manitoba respectively. Successful design, configuration, testing, and demonstration of the Ontario regional network will be a proof of concept allowing the commencement for the implementation of the two other sites.
Your job is to start designing and implementing a complete networking infrastructure to support all locations. Starting with a design ofthe network topology that will outline the cabling infrastructure as well as the placement and configuration of the routers and switches to meet the company’s requirements. For the Phase I submission of this capstone your deliverables are as follows:
Addressing: Your IP address schematic should provide a solution for both IPv4 & IPv6 addressing for the entire organization (this includes the two future sites in Quebec & Manitoba)
Topology: Your topology diagram (for Phase I) should only address the topology for the Ontario offices and the Data Centre.
The current network consists of a simple stub network with a single switch connected to a single router.
Specifications For Future Network Design
WAN Connectivity & Routing:
The company will be hosting their web servers in their Data Centre, which is located in Toronto. All sites should have access to this Data Centre via a leased connection. ISP services will be available via the Data Centre. (Configure Loopback interfaces with the IP addresses of 200.200.200.1/30and 2004:abcd:cafe:1::1/126 for IPv4 & IPv6 respectively on the DC router to emulate the ISP).
The current Toronto office is tobe identified as the Toronto Primary Office and the second location will be identified as Toronto Secondary Office. The primary and secondary offices at each site will be within the same geographic area and should be connected to each other at each other as LAN connections. ISP access for theseoffices and all future offices will be via the DataCentre.
The OSPF routing protocol will be implemented throughout the company’s network infrastructure. OSPF has been selected due to its flexibility for multiple areas, support of IPv4 and IPv6 and ease of scalability for future growth. When implementing OSPF the following specifications should be followed.
The Ontario Region, the Quebec Region, and the Manitoba Region will each have a unique Area number. The Area assignment will be as follows: Data Centre – Area 1, Ontario – Area 416, Quebec – Area 514, and Manitoba – Area 204. You are asked to add any additional areas as required to conform to OSPF standardization rules. At each site the router with the lowest IP address is to be the “Designated Router”and the router with the highest IP address is to be the “Backup Designated Router.”
The company would like you to identify any single points of failure(s) within your design and recommend a minimum solution to fix the issue. (This recommended fix should be fully documented and a complete topology diagram should be included in your Phase II submission.)
LAN Connectivity:
The company has purchased a number of new pieces of networking equipment to supplement its existing equipment. They have purchased eight routers and eight switches total, which will be implemented within the organization – not all devices purchased are Cisco devices, and all your network design protocol selection should reflect this fact. All routers have 2 Serial ports, and 2 Gigabit Ethernet ports. Each Switch has 24 Gig ports. Your design will determine how each piece of equipment is used.Ideally, the company would like your solution to assign at least 2 routers and 2 switches to each site, due to budget constraints. Your design of the Ontario site will be duplicated to the other 2 sites. Any leftoverequipment will be used to implement the servers at the Data Centre.
The Company expects you to implement some form of link aggregation, Spanning Tree Protocol, and any other protocol as you see fit. In order tocontain the bottlenecks on links connecting the switches to each other at each site they would like you to implement a link that supports a minimum of 2Gbps between the switches.
The company would like to ensure maximum connectivity to the outside; your design should include some form of gateway redundancy to all end-users within each respective site.
Logical Addressing:
The company is pro-actively implementing IPv6 in all locations but must continue to support IPv4 for current and backwards compatibility. Therefore, all workstations and network equipment going forward must be dual-stacked to handle both protocols. The company currently uses a 172.32.xxx.0/21 address space for its IPv4 addressing. It does not want to change the currently used address space, instead the company wants to better utilize its existing addressing space when adding locations and Regions.
The new implementation of IPv6 presents the company with the opportunity to use a more structured approach when assigning IPv6 to its locations. With the possibility of one-day relinquishing IPv4 completely and using solely IPv6 the company has requested a few requirements when designing the IPv6 addressing.
Firstly, the IPv6 address range will be based on a traditional /64 prefix allowing the IPv6 addressing to follow common practices and use the 4th Hextet of the IPv6 address for all Subnetting requirements.
Secondly, the company has requested that within the fourth Hextet there must be the following Hexadecimal identifiers: A hexadecimal identifier for the Region, a Hexadecimal identifier for each Office and a Hexadecimal identifier for each Network Segment.
