• Digital Forensic investigator should have many skills related to different computing In this assignment, you are required to install and test a DF Linux distro OS and its DF tools. You may use dual boot options or run the OS on a Virtual Machine (VMWare, VirtualBox).

You are required to complete in your report all the following tasks. Explanation and screen captures are

1. Understand Linux file system (e.g. Ext2, Ext3, Ext4, ReiserFS, XFS, JFS) – How to create folders, moving files between folders and drives, searching for files based on certain file names and extension, undelete deleted files, hide and unhide files; and other relevant file management skills needed by digital forensic

2. How would you identify installed software in the Linux system; where to get software or Linux utilities; explain Linux Software Centre; list of software or software repositories; How Synaptic Package Manager can help software management in Linux and others.

3. How would you be able to transfer files from the Linux OS to another storage or system through Bluetooth?

4. How to wipe a thumb drive attached to the Linux before you can copy out any evidence through sparse data acquisition technique? (Hints: no additional utility required for this task)

5. How to investigate Multimedia files directly on the Linux system? Example, opening a video file (AVI) for viewing, sound file (OGG), image file (JPG), etc.

6. Assuming you know the account and password or any other setting required by the following questions:-

   • Is there any Email client exists in Linux? If so, how basically you use the DF program to extract out the email data from this email client?

   • How would you identify WiFi connection available in Linux?

   • How would you configure LAN connection on Linux?
