ASSESSMENT TASK 3: DESCRIPTION 

Your task is to work in groups of 3-4 students to produce an 8 minute narrated PowerPoint presentation about an assigned infectious disease. The presentation will demonstrate your understanding of the pathogenicity of a specified microorganism in humans and you must use the appropriate scientific terminology during the presentation. The microorganism you will present on will be given to you in Week 4 of the semester. In your presentation your group will need to cover the following aspects of the disease: a) The symptoms of the disease and how these relate to the immune response, and the demographic that is exposed to it; b) Define the type of microorganism and its mode of transmission and how transmission might be prevented; c) Describe the appropriate samples to be taken and how the diagnostic tests used confirm infection; d) Describe the treatments used to control the disease in an infected patient and how those treatments work to resolve the infection. Each group member is expected to contribute equally to the task, prepare their own slides and speak to them in the presentation. 

In order to complete this task you will need to devote time to the following phases. 

Research phase: 

Gather materials to support your understanding of the topic.
