DENM014 - Reflection on Engineering Ethics

Write a reflection on the social, ethical and (where useful) legal implications of autonomous systems. Your submission must address specifically one of these emerging technologies: i. Autonomous road vehicles; or ii. Smart home technologies e.g. environmental control systems, personal monitoring and/or other forms of remote monitoring systems. Include a brief introduction to the modus operandi of the system you discuss (What does it do? How does it work?). Discuss the issues that arise in relation to incorporating these autonomous systems in everyday life. Relate these issues to the fundamental principles set out in the “Statement of Ethical Principles for the Engineering Profession” issued by the Engineering Council and the Royal Academy of Engineering. Draw conclusions and make recommendations for the ethical integration of these technologies in society.
